Allegiant Cycling Team Wins RAAM

The Allegiant Cycling Team won one of the most epic battles in RAAM history. Clocking a near-record time of 5 days, 11 hours and 17 minutes, the team beat a star-studded British team that was stacked with World and National Champions. But their journey to raise $150,000 for RMHC of Greater Las Vegas still continues and they need your help to succeed.

The nail-biting race, which saw the Allegiant team's lead constantly fluctuating, was on course to setting a new world record when they broke the British team's will through the rolling hills of Ohio. The "Battle of Ohio" saw the Americans extend their lead from 11 minutes to 54 minutes! The British later admitted defeat in after Ohio, after they were unable to match the pace of their American competitors, and the Allegiant team extended their lead by another hour over the Appalachian Mountains to all but ensure the victory. At this point, the team backed off (sacrificing the course record) and focused on getting the team home safely and with the win intact.

The Allegiant Cycling Team celebrates winning the RAAM. They covered 3,000 miles in 5 days 11 hours and 17 minutes with a 22.77 mph average.

The Race Across America was an epic event and the riders rode through beautiful terrain, while pushing through heat, rain, hail, humidity and a stinging sand/wind storm. The team also suffered a few setbacks while getting lost and waiting a total of over 20 minutes for trains! Despite all this, they averaged 22.77 mph for 3,000 miles!

Congratulations to the riders and crew, all were essential and critical in making this victory happen. Please show your support by donating to the cause, RMHC of Greater Las Vegas… every minute counts in the Race Across America, and every dollar counts in for families needing support.

You can follow the racers on Facebook and receive updates on their team website. Listen to Allegiant Cycling captain, Tony Gebbia, talk about the race across America on ESPN Radio 11 and 98.9 FM.
