This program allows us the opportunity to say to these young adults, "we believe in you and your future." We know that a number of these students wouldn't have the chance to go to college if it weren't for the support they're receiving from these scholarships. |
About RMHC Scholarships
The RMHC of Greater Las Vegas Scholarship Program is a partnership between RMHC, McDonald's, and local community organizations.
Since 1999, the RMHC scholarship program has given out over $2.4 million to 1,087 students from Clark and Nye counties in Nevada. In 2011, the program will award $298,895 to 146 high school graduates, and $34,000 to 34 returning college students as part of the RMHC Alumni Scholarship Program. Since beginning in 2008, the Alumni Program has awarded $120,000 in scholarships to previous RMHC Scholarship recipients who continue to be exemplary role models and have the initiative to fulfill their educational goals.
Funding for RMHC Scholarships
McDonald's Owner/Operators of Greater Las Vegas and The Las Vegas Review Journal help support the RMHC of Greater Las Vegas Scholarship Program by contributing a portion of every Review Journal newspaper sold in participating McDonald's restaurants. Since 2002, over $1.1 million in newspaper contributions have been donated to the Program. In 2010 alone, McDonald's newspaper contributions totaled over $180,000.
Additionally, McDonald's Owner/Operators of Greater Las Vegas created a special fundraising event called "Dollars for Scholars." During the one day fundraiser, $1 from every Extra Value Meal purchased at participating McDonald's restaurants went towards the scholarship fund. The first "Dollars for Scholars" fundraiser was held on April 1st, 2011 and raised a total of $48,756.
Each year, RMHC, Inc. contributes $62,250 in match funds to the RMHC of Greater Las Vegas Scholarship Program for scholarships awarded through our chapter.
RMHC of Greater Las Vegas has also partnered with several local community organizations in an effort to offer a wider scope of scholarship opportunities. These partners have contributed over $40,000 towards the 2011 Program:
• 100 Black Men of Las Vegas |
• The Links Inc., Las Vegas Chapter |
Thank You!
